The first observance of National Bootlegger’s Day was in 2015, initiated by Infinium Spirits to celebrate the birth of Templeton Rye, a whiskey distilled by growers in Templeton, Iowa, during the heights of the prohibition. Though Infinium Spirits sells a variety of brands, Templeton Rye has a special day to itself owing to its fabulous history.
The term courier itself has its origins in Midwest America, during the 1880s.

White folk would frequently conceal steins of liquor in their thrills when engaging in the illegal liquor trade with Native Americans, and this nifty system of hiding liquor in thrills was employed by the service too.

Dogfaces would frequently sneak alcohol into base camp by hiding the steins in their thrills. therefore the term came to be used for any runner of liquor who smuggled booze over land. Those who smuggled alcohol via water were appertained to as ‘ rum- runners ’.

17 January Special Day: About

When Prohibition outlawed the manufacture and trade of alcoholic potables on January 17, 1920, numerous enterprising residents of a small city in Iowa chose to come outlaws – producing a high-quality and important sought-after whiskey known as TEMPLETON RYE, or the “ THE GOOD STUFF” to those in the know. Alphonse Kerkhoff was one of those Templeton outlaws.
Over the course of its fabled history, Templeton Rye came Al Capone’s whiskey of choice, snappily chancing its way to the center of his bootlegging conglomerate. Templeton Rye is grounded on the original Prohibition period Kerkhoff form.

It’s progressed in charred new oak barrels for a smooth finish … and a clean flight.
January 17 isn’t only the birthday of Templeton Rye, but it’s also the birthday of Al Capone as well as the original Bootlegger’s son Meryl Kerkhoff. Please join our community of suckers at the Bootlegger’s Society
