National Son and Daughter Day is the time to go ahead and spoil the kids a little. Be a grandparent ahead of time for a day, and remind the kids that through all the ups and downs of mayhem and joy, and however far they’ve turned out, they are the greatest loves of your life.

History
The population at large may already be familiar with similar holidays such as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, and Father-Daughter Day, formerly established by the Ms. Foundation for Women and its founder, journalist Gloria Steinem, and later it was done.
The result is an effort on the part of musician Smokey Robinson to stay close to his six daughters no matter what.

But if popular wisdom is to be believed, National Sons and Daughters Day traces its origins to a slightly earlier time than either of these.
In 1930s Missouri, where a gentleman from the city of St. Joseph took issue with a young boy, why shouldn’t the boy complain that both his mom and dad are having a “day”?
The man became convinced and slowly the idea took hold, with its popularity dwindling and drifting until the 1970s.
This led to another big leap: A member of the Florida House reportedly requested the US Congress to officially recognize National Son and Daughter Day.
The delegate, Claude Pepper, should also have made it official, adding Paul’s name to the holiday, specifically to recognize George Paul, the paper’s protagonist from the old Texas rodeo circuit. Or is it just a bunch of “bulls”? Our researchers are unable to pinpoint the exact record of the requested congressman.
The next reference to National Son and Daughter Day is in the Nanaimo Daily News. A Canadian publication found in the British Columbia area mentioned that day in 1988.
Whatever the origin, August 11 is the day to spend some quality time with your kids. Do something that you all enjoy doing as a family and cherish those moments together.
